When it comes to everyday carry knives, few brands stir up more excitement than Vero Engineering for me. Known for blending smart design with practical performance, Vero has built a loyal following — and their latest budget-friendly release, the Avid 1, shows exactly why.
I recently got my hands on the Avid 1 the Machine Belt Marble Carbon Fibre, thanks to the Vero team and here are my first impressions.

Out of the Box
Straight out of the box, the Avid 1 feels like a true Vero — clean, purposeful, and ready to work. It’s compact but doesn’t feel cheap or flimsy in hand. The fit and finish are solid for its price range, well I'm impressed because you cant tell, it’s clear this knife was made to be used.
Design & Build
The Avid 1 keeps that trademark Vero look but simplifies it to hit a more accessible price point. The handle is straightforward and comfortable, with just enough grip texture to feel secure without tearing up your pocket. What really surprised me is the action — I’m genuinely impressed by how smooth and snappy it is. The action feels dialed in perfectly, making it satisfying to open whether you prefer a quick flick or a slow roll. Overall, the feel in hand is spot on: well-balanced and confidence-inspiring.
Blade & Performance
Vero didn’t complicate the blade. S45VN Steel, 3.25" blade legnth It’s practical, functional, and ready for real-world tasks. Out of the box, it’s sharp enough to handle daily chores like slicing boxes, prepping food, or tackling light work around the house.

The Vero Value
What makes the Avid 1 stand out is the value. This is a Vero you won’t be afraid to actually use (haha some of mine stay nice and clean in the safe!)— So no safe queens here. It brings the same thoughtful design language and quality you’d expect from Vero, without the premium price tag. It’s a workhorse you can toss in your pocket every day.
Final Thoughts
The Avid 1 is proof that you don’t have to spend big to get a quality knife. For me, the smooth action and balanced feel alone make it worth a spot in the rotation. If you’ve ever wanted to try a Vero Engineering piece but didn’t want to break the bank, this is the one.
Have you checked out the Avid 1 yet? Let me know your thoughts — I’d love to hear what you think about this budget-friendly, Vero.
